EU regulation requires us as a bank to inform you of the charges you pay when you use your card to make payments in another currency in the EU and in Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland (the EEA countries).
If you have informed Danske Bank of your mobile phone number, you will therefore receive a text message when you use your card to make a payment in a store, make an ATM withdrawal or shop online in a currency of an EEA country.
The text message contains information about the mark-up you pay to us and is shown as a percentage mark-up over the European Central Bank (ECB) reference rate.
You will get a text message the first time you use your card in another EEA country. Once you have received the first text message, you will not receive additional messages over the next 30 days if you use the card again for the same foreign currency – and you can always unsubscribe for text messages.
We use Visa and Mastercard rates for conversion of card payments, and you may therefore find that there is a small difference between the mark-up stated in our text message and the mark-up stated in our price list. There are no changes to fees and charges.
You can read the answers to the most frequently asked questions about our currency conversion and the mark-up here, and you can also use our calculator to view the expected costs before you make a payment.
