Questions and answers about MitID

Have you been asked to update your proof of identity?
Some people must update their proof of identity in NemID before they can get their MitID. If this is the case for you, you will have been notified of this via Digital Post from the Danish Agency for Digitisation.
It is easy in the NemID code app
The easiest way to update your proof of identity is to scan your passport in the NemID code app.
- You will need the NemID code app
- a Danish passport with a chip. Passports issued after 1 January 2012 usually have a chip.
- a smartphone that can read a chip (NFC reader). Most Android phones and iPhones model 7 and newer can do that.
If you need help, follow the instructions at borger.dk/ID or call the Danish Agency for Digitisation on 33 98 00 12.
Book an appointment at Borgerservice – note that you may have to wait a while
If you do not have a passport with a chip, you can have your proof of identity updated and get your MitID at Borgerservice. Remember that you need to book an appointment before you go to Borgerservice.
Please remember to bring photo ID – for example your passport or driver’s licence. You will also need to answer some questions to confirm your identity or bring someone along who can vouch for your identity.

Protect yourself against fraud - we will not contact you by phone, email or text message
Should you be contacted by phone, email or text message in connection with your MitID, never disclose personal data. Neither we nor public authorities will ask you to disclose personal information or passwords/codes, so if we appear to do so, it is a case of fraud.
- You will need the NemID code app

How and when do you get your MitID?
Since so many people will be getting MitID, we cannot all do it at the same time. It may be a while before it is your turn. You will be notified when it is your turn. Until then, you do not have to do anything – you can simply continue to use your NemID.
Do you have Danske eBanking? This is how you will receive notification
- If you have Danske eBanking or Danske Mobile Banking, you will receive notification through one of these channels when it is your turn to get your MitID. You will then have 30 days to get your MitID.
- If you would like to get your MitID right away, you can do so via Danske Mobile Banking – simply choose ‘Getting started with MitID’ on the menu.
If you do not have access to Danske eBanking – how to receive notification
- If you bank with us but do not have access to Danske eBanking or Danske Mobile Banking, you will be notified via Digital Post from the Danish Agency for Digitisation when it is your turn to get your MitID.
- You can also get it now – just go to mitid.dk

Why MitID and what is it?
Over time, digital solutions are replaced because they must be safe and keep up with technological developments. That is the reason why, over the next year, NemID will be replaced by MitID, which meets the newest security standards – so that we can also in future safely use our digital ID online.
MitID is first and foremost an app in which you simply swipe to approve; you may be familiar with this from the NemID code app. If the app is not an option for you, you can choose a MitID code display or a MitID audio code reader. Read more about this at MitID.dk.
MitID is based on a collaboration between the public authorities and the banks in Denmark. This means that it is easy for you to use the MitID, whether you want to log on to Danske eBanking or Danske Mobile Banking or at the borger.dk website or shop online. -
