When you shop online, you will experience that you need to authenticate your card payments.
The easiest way to authenticate payments is to use the NemID code app. 


To reduce the risk of card fraud online, there are requirements for the authentication of online card payments.

This means that you may experience that you need to authenticate your purchases using either:
  • The NemID code app or
  • A personal password of your choice in combination with a one-time passcode sent by text message.

You may not be able to complete your purchases if you do not have the NemID code app or a personal password ready when shopping online.  

Use the NemID code app – the NemID code card cannot be used for online purchases

We recommend that you use the NemID code app, enabling you to authenticate your online purchases quickly and easily. You cannot authenticate your purchases with the physical NemID code card.

If you are not already using the NemID code app, you can download it from App Store or Google Play.

Please note if you are using Mastercard and do not have Danske eBanking or Danske Mobile Bank, you cannot use the app to authenticate your purchases. Then you have to authenticate your purchases using a personal password and a text message passcode – below you can see how.

Use the NemID code app – the NemID code card cannot be used
We recommend that you use the NemID code app to authenticate your purchases – you cannot use the physical NemID code card for this purpose.

If you are using Mastercard and do not have Danske eBanking or Danske Mobile Bank, you cannot use the app to authenticate your purchases. Then you have to authenticate your purchases using a personal password and a text message passcode – below you can see how.

How to authenticate with a personal password and a one-time passcode

If you do not use the NemID code app, you need to authenticate your online purchases with a personal password together with a one-time passcode sent by text message.

  • Visa/Dankort
    Create a personal password for your Visa/dankort at nets.eu/3ds. You will need a NemID to sign in to the website. You will get the one-time passcode by text message in connection with the purchase.
  • Mastercard
    Create a personal password for your Mastercard at danskebank.dk/managecards. To log on to the webpage, you need to have a NemID. If you do not have a NemID, you need a temporary PIN to log on to the webpage for the first time. You can order a temporary PIN by calling us on +45 70 123 456 – it will be sent to you by post.

Do you have a Mastercard but not Danske eBanking/Danske Mobile Bank?
If you have a Mastercard but do not have one of our online banking solutions, you cannot authenticate online purchases using the NemID code app.
Then you have to approve your purchases using a personal password and a text message passcode – above you can see how. This only applies to Mastercard – not Visa/Dankort.

Questions and answers about online purchases

  • I cannot remember my personal password for my Visa/Dankort – how do I get a new one?
    You can create a new personal password for your Visa/Dankort at Nets’ website at nets.eu/3ds. You will need a NemID to sign in to the webpage.
  • I cannot remember my personal password for my Mastercard – how do I get a new one?
    You can create a new personal password for your Mastercard at danskebank.dk/managecards. To log on to the webpage, you need to have a NemID. If you do not have a NemID, you need a temporary PIN to log on to the webpage. You can order a temporary PIN by calling us on +45 70 123 456, and it will be sent to you by post.
  • I have problems authenticating Mastercard payments with the NemID code app, how can that be?

  • I would like to use a text message passcode to authenticate my purchases, but I cannot see that option when shopping online

    If you have a Visa/Dankort
    It may be because you have not linked your phone number to your Visa/Dankort or because you have not created a personal password for your card. You can link your phone number to your card and create a personal password for your card at nets.eu/3ds.


    If you have a Mastercard or a pocket money card
    It may be because you have not linked your phone number to your Mastercard. The easiest way to do so is to register your phone number in Danske eBanking or Danske Mobile Bank. If you do not have one of these online solutions, you can call us and give us your phone number.
    It may also be because you have not created a personal password for your card. You can create one at danskebank.dk/managecards


  • What is the easiest way to authenticate online card payments?
    The easiest way to authenticate a purchase when shopping online is to use the NemID code app. If you are not already using the app, you can download it from App Store or Google Play.

    Please note that if you have a Mastercard but do not have Danske eBanking or Danske Mobile Bank, you cannot authenticate online purchases using the NemID code app. Then you have to approve your purchases using a personal password and a text message passcode – above you can see how.
  • I have a non-Danish phone number and do not receive a text message passcode when shopping online
    Some telephone operators do not allow text messages generated automatically. Please contact your operator to find out whether they allow automatically generated text messages sent to you or whether such messages are blocked. If you have access to a mobile phone with a Danish subscription, we recommend that you use this phone.

    Remember to link the Danish mobile number to the card you would like to use for payments online. You can link your mobile number to your Visa/Dankort at nets.eu/3ds, and you can link your mobile number to your Mastercard by entering your number in Danske eBanking/Mobile Bank or by calling us to give it to us.

  • Can I have several cards linked to the same mobile number?
    Yes, you can have several cards linked to the same mobile number.
  • Can I submit a dispute?
    The requirements for how you authenticate your card purchases online do not affect your opportunities for submitting a dispute. You can always submit a dispute if you see card transactions on your account that you cannot recognise or accept.
