Both debit and credit cards are payment cards, but they work in different ways:
Debit card
When you use a debit card (Mastercard Hverdag+ or Visa/Dankort), the money is usually charged to your account right away.
Credit card
When you use a credit card (Mastercard Basis, Guld or Platin), you borrow money from the card issuer to pay for your purchase within an agreed credit limit. You repay the full amount spent once a month.
In practice, that means the money is automatically debited to your bank account on the 1st of every month. With a Mastercard credit card, you have up to six weeks of interest-free credit.
In a nutshell
With a credit card, you borrow money to spend, whereas with a debit card you already have the money you spend. Remember that you do not pay interest on your Mastercard credit card purchases if you settle the full amount each month.
